LITTLE WILSON FALLS, LOWER

Lower Little Wilson

DESCRIPTION: This 20 foot slide falls into a broad, deep pool (complete with rope swing) is located next to a Maine Forest Service drive-in campground on lower Little Wilson Stream. The lower falls has its own listing because many visitors elect not to hike the mile or so upstream to the major waterfall attraction of the area, upper Little Wilson Falls. Even if you do not hike to the upper falls, it is worthwhile to follow the access trail on the south side of Little Wilson upstream for a quarter mile or so. Immediately above the lower falls, a number of small falls and rapids tumble over exposed ridges of tabular granite, unusual in this area. A bit farther upstream, there are two eight-foot falls, each with its own oversized plunge pool— a nice spot to catch a trout or go for a swim.
